Project Overview

Armstrong Scaffolding was brought in to design and install a temporary roof over a large property in Horsham while its roof was stripped and replaced. The scaffold carried a fully sheeted roof structure over the whole building, creating a covered, weatherproof working area for the roofing contractor below.

What the Site Needed

Re-roofing work leaves a building open to the weather for days or weeks at a time. On a job this size, one spell of rain can stop progress and put the exposed structure at risk. The site needed more than a standard access scaffold. It needed a roof over the roof, so the works could carry on whatever the forecast, and safe access around every elevation for the trades working at height.

What We Installed

We erected a full perimeter scaffold around the property and built a sheeted temporary roof across the top, sealing the working area from the elements. The structure gave the roofing team a dry, stable platform to strip the old roof and fit the new one, with boarded lifts and edge protection providing safe access at every level. Because the building sits on a main road, the scaffold was set out and guarded to keep the footpath and passing traffic clear of the works.

Why This Project Stands Out

A temporary roof of this span has to be engineered, not just assembled. The sheeting has to shed water and stand up to wind while staying clear of the trades working underneath. Getting that right on a roadside building meant careful planning around the scaffold design, the loading and the site boundary, so the roofing contractor could work to programme without weather delays.

Outcome

The finished temporary roof gave the contractor a dry, sheltered and safe environment to complete the re-roof, with no lost days to weather and safe access maintained throughout. Armstrong Scaffolding provides temporary roofs, roof scaffolds and tailored access solutions for residential and commercial projects across Horsham, West Sussex, Surrey and the South East.
